The Daily Independent is the only local daily newspaper operating in the Indian Wells Valley. Our primary focus is to provide our readers with complete local coverage of our area combined with the best shopping information available. In addition to The Daily Independent we also publish and distribute RidgecrestWeekly, a local shopper, each Wednesday by carrier, mail and through city rack locations. The Daily Independent also does commercial printing.
We are located at 224 E. Ridgecrest Blvd. in downtown Ridgecrest Ca. We employ more than 50 full and part-time employees. Additionally, more than 90 carriers and contract drivers ensure that The Daily Independent subscribers and Ridgecrestweekly.com readers receive their publications on time.
We are a member of the Associated Press and the California Newspapers Publishers Association, and a part of Gatehouse Media, a publicly traded newspaper corporation.

I am thrilled that we’re using a web log to get feedback from the public; what a great way for our readers to let us know their opinions on the local news topics. We’ve posted a nice big link on our web site http://www.ridgecrestca.com so all of our usual readers will know what we’re up too, and have the opportunity to let all the 3,500 plus visitors we have every day know their thoughts.
Also I think it is a good chance for anyone who is interested in “blogging” to have a try at it and see how much fun it really is.

I like the changes which have been occurring over the last few months, expanded community coverage, some consistent NASCAR coverage, pretty good editorial comments, and other beneficial changes. But one change has me bummed.
The elimination of a separate colorful comics section, and many of my favorite comic strips has not gone unnoticed. I haven’t seen any other public opinions on the change, but don’t think because of that it has universal approval! It has entirely changed my Sunday routine. I used to look forward to spending an enjoyable wake up cup of coffee with the comics and the rest of the paper. Now I frequently can’t even get the rubber band off because it’s so depressing without the vibrant colors and favorite strips. Perhaps I exagerate a bit, but I grew up on Sunday comics, first my Dad reading them to me, and then being able to enjoy them myself. It seems that the DI, in its various incarnations, has had a comics sections for, what, 40 years or more? At least I go back that far with the DI and local comics.
You don’t need to know just which strips I happen to favor and which I enjoy less, for that maybe is a political or subjective opinion on politics or humor. I MISS THEM ALL!
I just don’t want you to think all we readers are taking this deprivation lying down. I object. I don’t know, of course, what the trade-off was, what I am getting now instead of my beloved comics. but I would be willing to give up almost any of the new and improved features to get my comics back!
Just so you know now…
Regards,
Jim Nichols
